The HT Italia HT96U is a clamp-type AC current transducer that converts a measured alternating current into a proportional 1 V AC output signal. It provides three selectable full-scale ranges — 1 A, 100 A, and 1000 A — with corresponding measuring ranges of 0.001 to 1.2 A, 0.1 to 120 A, and 1 A to 1200 A AC, and applies output ratios of 1 mV/mA, 10 mV/A, and 1 mV/A respectively across those ranges.

A current transducer clamp couples around a conductor to sense the AC current flowing through it without breaking the circuit, presenting a scaled low-level output that a host instrument can read. The HT96U is also configured for power measurement: the conventional current direction P1 ⇒ P2 indicated by the arrow must be observed so that the sensed quantity carries the correct sign.
