He used a variety of media including painting, silk-screen printing, sculpture, film & music. He exploited the counter-culture of New York in the 1960s to dramatic effect, creating porn-stars & providing a platform for innovative bands such as The Velvet Underground, whom he promoted as part of his Exploding Plastic Inevitable multi-media show. This further promoted Warhol himself as artist & celebrity.
His studio, which he called The Factory, later became the epicenter of the New York underground scene, attracting mainstream celebrity visitors such as The Doors, The Beatles, David Bowie & The Rolling Stones. Celebrities from the arts were also in attendance, in particular Salvador Dali.
Warhol’s most famous works were his series of celebrity silk-screen prints which featured various Hollywood icons, the most popular being his prints of Marilyn Monroe.
