Our Kayra textile is a nod to the past, to the enduring influence of the Silk Road on the textile arts in Antakya. The exceptionally soft texture is achieved with cotton "şantuk" yarn, which takes its name from the silk fabric of the Shandong province in China.
A versatile textile, the Kayra can be used as a warm wrap, a towel or a throw. It is woven on wooden handlooms in the ancient city of Antakya, between the Syrian border and the Levantine Mediterranean Sea. In one of Turkey's few remaining authentic handweaving ateliers, a family of master weavers continue to cultivate their centuries-old tradition.
